Nobody expect a special needs child and a tough marriage journey. In the beginning, we were in denial, angry, begging for help, treating various religious books like encyclopedia. We keep working, giving, volunteering, anything that can turn our negative energy to a positive one.
I strongly believe Ernest is my destinated red traffic light in life to “crush, mold” and change me. Without this traffic light, the high flyer me might crash on the highway of material success. We might not stop to learn about the smell and beauty of flowers, the majestic mountains etc. With this traffic light, we have learned to be more compassionate and stop chasing for intendable things in life. Not the path we expected, chose, or wanted but realizing now we have ended up getting more in life than what we would have “bargained” for. We stayed together as a couple/teammate to face the music, looked after our three children and build a respected northern light tour business in the Yukon.
Did I feel left out in many situations? Yes, both emotionally and physically with my aspiration as a young graduate, dreams, social circle, travel, friends who left because we are no longer in the same circle and more. We have no choice but to live day by day with each others’ company and support. This journey has taught me not to just turn lemon into lemonade but honey spiked lemonade. Play with the hand we deal and play to win.
My divine power (my Bible) verses gave me a lot of comfort that it is not my fault that my son was born Autistic. He is giving my family a platform to encourage the others that there is HOPE and LOVE through my son’s testimony and our life experience. Be encouraged!
